Within the grounds of The Barn there's a Pitch and Putt Practice Hole to help you improve your golf. Local 18-hole golf course You could also go up to our local golf club and play their 18-hole course. Richmond Golf Club is situated just outside the historic town of Richmond.


Enjoy a day of fishing and see what you can catch at Gilling West, North Yorkshire Within the grounds there's two well stocked fishing lakes with free fishing - though you will need a licence. The first lake is stocked full of fighting Rainbow Trout and the second is for course fishing.

Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle

LIn the heart of Teesdale is The Bowes Museum built in the 19th Century; a great tourist attraction for all the family. The magnificent building stands proud in the historic market town of Barnard Castle housing internationally significant collections of fine and decorative arts.

Raby Castle, Staindrop

A great tourist attraction, one of the finest Medieval Castles in England, Raby Castle Whilst staying with us at Gilling Old Mill Cottages you may want to visit Raby Castle; home to Lord Barnard's family since 1626, Raby is one of finest medieval Castle's in England. Built by the mighty Nevill family in the 14th Century, Raby remained in the Nevill family until 1569 when after the failure of the Rising of the North, the Castle and its lands were forfeited to the Crown. Whilst at Raby Castle discover the force of nature at High Force, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in England, located at Forest-in-Teesdale, Co. Durham. Raby Castle is situated 20 miles further east at Staindrop.
